Gulf Oil Mess

In case you don't recognize it, this is a picture of a bird off the coast of Louisianna. When I look at the picture it makes me want to cry.

LOST

And when Jack’s eye closed and the screen went to the trademark ending of just saying “Lost”, fans all over the world cried foul.

As far as I’m concerned, we got them. It was always about Jack and his experiences on the Island.

All the mythology was just a bit player. It didn’t matter what the numbers meant. It didn’t matter what the light was under that carrot-shaped rock. It didn’t even matter what the "Man In Black"'s name was.

It only mattered that Jack realised his destiny. And in the end, once more it was dialogue that was used to explain it to us, this time by way of his father, the aptly named Christian Shephard.

“The most important part of your life is the time you spent with these people. That’s why all of you are here. Nobody does it alone, Jack. You needed all of them, and they needed you…to remember, and let go.”

In other words, we the writers want you to enjoy the story for what it was, a story about a set of characters. We had subplots, we had cliffhangers, we had multiple mystery boxes, but at the end it was always about the characters. Remember them, and let go. It’s over.

This Is Scary

Shouldn't people who make the decisions that impact the lives of all Americans for years to come at least be AWARE of the way we live our lives now? It’s time for younger, more time-aware justices. And it’s definitely time for term limits on them.

CAUSE FOR CELEBRATION

Today America wins, and the fear mongers, liars, and hypocrites don't. The Democratic health care initiative passed Congress this weekend. Whether you like it or not, it's one of the major pieces of legislation to come out of Congress in the last hundred years. It will change the way health care is delivered in America forever. Not a single Republican voted for it.
Life would be so much smoother in if the Republican Party didn’t come across as an angry mob. At the beginning of this process they made a strategic decision, republicans would make no deal with the administration. There would be no negotiations, no compromise, nothing. If they couldn’t have it their way, then they would try to make sure no one had anything.
This is a huge political victory, and it calls for some celebration. Roughly 30 million people will now have some form of health care who didn’t have it before. Premiums should by logic, go down for those already covered. Insurance companies can't deny people based on pre-existing conditions or abandon patients in need. Those are huge victories.

Tiger Who?

Tiger Woods apologized to the American people today. Do you feel you deserve an apology from him? I don't. He didn't do anything to me. I guess he could buy me a drink, if he wanted to. He could introduce me to some of his attractive friends. That would be a waste of time. I don't think his friends would like me. I'd kind of like to meet his Mom. Do you think he'd like to introduce me to her?
