Why Are People So Afraid Of Everyone Having Health Care?

The way the health care bill is now headed appears to be a major boon for the insurance companies. By mandating everyone have health care coverage or be subject to a fine is a big mistake. If you can't afford insurance how can you pay a fine? If everyone needs to buy health care from an insurance company the insurance company wins. I thought part of the reason for reform was to eliminate waste. What we need is Medicare for all citizens starting at birth. The insurance companies currently have a 30% administrative overhead, where medicare is only 2%. By converting to a single payer system, we immediately save 300 billion dollars in administrative overhead. We are now paying twice what other countries pay for health care, yet we have 45 million uninsured. Nearly half the bankruptcies currently filed in the United States are because of medical bills. The only reason we don't have a single payer system is due to lack of representative government. Our government does not serve the people who elected them, but serves the special interests of the health insurance industry.
